Acrylic on paper made from t-shirt production waste, embroidery thread, repurposed curtain liner and pine

Healing, 2022

A collaborative artwork inspired by the paintings of Abel Rodríguez, who uses art as a medium to preserve his knowledge of the Nonuya rainforest after the Colombian armed conflict and natural resource exploitation forced Rodríguez and his family from native land to Bogotá. The 64 tiles were painted by the Together South community, and stitched together with Sashiko visible mending, a Japanese technique which heals the artwork together. Together South supports refugees, non-EU migrants and unaccompanied young asylum seekers in South & East London, Kent and Hastings.
